2012-06-01: Join Soweto Healthy Lifestyle 7 km funwalk and Open Day
THE City of Johannesburg will be hosting an Open Day and a 7km Fun Walk event on Sunday, 24 June 2012 at Elmond Molele Park, Protea North in Soweto from
07h00-14h00, to promote healthy lifestyle under the theme "Walking for Healthy Living and Lifestyle Change".
Approximately 3 000 people including youth are expected to participate in activities including aerobics, medical screening, fun walk. At the same event, the
City in partnership with different organisations will educate the public on the benefit of living a healthy balanced lifestyle and to reducing the risk of
developing chronic diseases.
"The Open Day will provide an ideal opportunity to find out about the wide range of exciting programmes the City of Johannesburg and other organisations
offers to the community", says Cllr Nonceba Molwele, the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Health and Social Development Department in Johannesburg.
There will be a range of activities during the day, which include Open Day event that will promote healthy lifestyle including fitness instruction and
nutritional advice stalls, arts and culture exhibition.
"The main focus will be on the chronic diseases i.e. testing blood pressures, sugar diabetes and HIV Counseling and Testing (HCT)", said Molwele.
The 7km fun walk registration forms are available to all the City of Johannesburg's clinics, the City's Sport and Recreation Centres, Social Development
