2009-09-09: Empowering our communities through training
The City of Johannesburg’s Public Safety Department officially launched the Public Safety Month on the 7th September in Mofolo Park, Mofolo Central, Soweto.
The second week of the Public Safety Month, starting tomorrow, Monday, 14th September 2009, sees the various Community Representatives, including Ward Councilors and Ward Safety members, undergoing By-Law training. Experts in By-Law enforcement sections of both the Emergency Management Services (EMS) and Metro Police (JMPD) will be imparting knowledge on various legislated Municipal By-Laws that include fire safety and swimming pools.
The main purpose of this training is specifically to give these Community Representatives an overview and understanding of how the two departments (EMS and JMPD) – falling under the City’s Public Safety Department – enforce these By-Laws. These (empowered) representatives will then be expected to go back to their constituencies and plough back whatever they have gained during the said training.

The Public Safety Month will cater for the entire city of Johannesburg with special focus on addressing all the core functions of the Public Safety Department. Priority and high risk areas identified in the city will receive specific attention to ensure that programs implemented henceforth are sustained.
