2009-09-04: Executive Mayor Amos Masondo visits Freedom Park in Region D

The Executive Mayor of Johannesburg Councillor Amos Masondo, accompanied by Members  of  the  Mayoral  Committee  and the City of Johannesburg’s senior management  will  be  visiting  Freedom  Park  in Region G on Saturday 05th September 2009.

Mayoral  road  shows  provide  the  Executive Mayor, Members of the Mayoral Committee  and  senior  management  an opportunity and platform to interact with  various  stakeholders,  see  first  hand  implementation  of  capital projects  and  service  delivery challenges as well as to interact with the communities.

The areas to be visited in Freedom Park are house number 88/3814, these are houses that are built near a man made stream, Telescope and Mpumelelo Road, as well as a stadium and Lindelani informal settlements.

The  bus  will  leave  Metro  Centre at 10h00. The engagement will start at Freedom Park Primary School with a briefing by the local leadership.

Some of the highlights of the road show include:

A visit near house number 88/3814 which has a blocked open channel storm water drainage system.

A visit and a walk about to houses built near a man made stream on a
wetland and the houses flood when the stream is full.

A visit and a walk about into LEO Street, where houses are built on flood line next to a stream.

A visit and a walk about to house number 1830 and to the unmaintained mini stadium. There is also a dispute at house number 1830 between neighbours over a toilet belonging to number 1830, which is built on the neighbour’s property.

A visit and walk about to Lindelani informal settlement where a total of 120 people are temporary placed and awaiting houses.
The  roadshow  will  end with a public meeting where the Mayor and his team will  listen  to the complex issues of development and service delivery. As Dr  Augistino  Neto  said:  “the  most important thing is to solve people’s problems”.

On  completion  of  the  roadshow the Mayor and his team will look at areas visited  for  the day, challenges identified and follow ups that need to be done.
