2009-01-20: JW upgrading water connections in Ennerdale Extension 5
JOHANNESBURG Water (JW), the water and sanitation service provider for the City of Johannesburg wishes to inform residents living in Ennerdale Extension 5 in the southern part of Johannesburg, of a project to replace the existing water house connections in the area.
The primary objective of this project is to replace existing water house connection by replacing small diameter steel piping with new piping, and to replace household water meters and meter boxes with new conventional meters and meter boxes. At a total cost of R4.7 million, the project will comprise the replacement of infrastructure in 1161 stands in the area. The replacement of the infrastructure will reduce maintenance and associated costs.
The project is envisaged to commence in the last week of January and the overall project to install the above mentioned infrastructure is expected to be completed by mid July 2009. Johannesburg Water is aware of the problems that are caused by old and outdated municipal water infrastructure, and it has put comprehensive programmes in place to upgrade and rehabilitate municipal water infrastructure throughout the City of Johannesburg.
Johannesburg Water does not foresee any service disruption relating to water supply to the residents during the upgrade except for during change-over to new meters. The company will however notify residents at least 48 hours in advance should any planned water interruptions occur as the result of work being undertaken to complete the project.
Johannesburg Water is committed to improving the level of water and sanitation services and appeals to residents to contact its 24hour call centre on 011 688 1500 to report both water and sewer service related problems.
