CITY'S REVENUE DEPARTMENT KEEPS CUSTOMERS INFORMED THROUGH CITY BUZZ
City Buzz is the Revenue Department's regular newsletter, which aims to keep its customers informed about key issues that affect them on a day-to-day basis. The newsletter is distributed by post to over 600 000 customers monthly, and is included with the monthly statement that customers receive. Mandy Jean Woods, spokesperson for the Department of Revenue says that regular communication with the City's customers is important. " We have found that the more customers are educated about the City's processes, the easier the task becomes when they need to transact with the City." Key issues covered in this month's City Buzz include:

Reathusa Municipal Account Subsidy Scheme, which aims to assist customers earning less than R6500 gross per month, the opportunity to have half of their debt written off Special registration road shows are being held across the City to encourage registration.
Opening and closing of municipal accounts is a crucial function as it allows you to obtain municipal services, as well as indicating to the City when you would like to stop receiving municipal services
Clearance certificates are necessary when a property is transferred from one person to another. To obtain a clearance certificate you need to have paid your municipal account in full. Customers are reminded that if you have an account with debt older than two years on it, a clearance certificate may be issued, however the customer remains liable for the debt
FAQs
When must I pay my account?
This is dependant on your billing cycle and the due date for payment of your account is stated on the statement you receive.
What should I do if I have no power?
If you have no power because your power has been disconnected, you will receive a notice and you should call the number on the notice received. If its a general power failure in your area, you can contact City Power, via Joburg Connect at (011) 375 5555
When will my meter be read?
Your meter should be read on a monthly basis. Meter readers will read your meter based on your monthly billing cycle
Is my water consumption high?
If you think that your water consumption is excessive, please log a call with Joburg Connect. You may be asked to get a written plumber's report if you suspect a water leak on your property.
How do I update my address?
You can contact the call centre that will then log a request for your address to be updated - you will be contacted for verification
Where do I apply for finalisation of my account?
Go to your nearest regional office and fill in the application form requesting finalisation of your account. This can also be requested by calling the Joburg Connect
Where do I find out about my refund?
You can request that your refund in writing by letter to the CoJ - addressed to P.O Box 5000, Johannesburg, 2000 or fax to 011 358 3408/9, you can also visit your nearest regional office to do a request for a refund. (Your refund request can also be determined by your request for finalisation - you will be contacted if they require additional information) To find out the status of your refund request, you can contact Joburg Connect on 011 375 5555 or you can visit your nearest regional office.
